Sir Thomas Lipton 2011 Trophy in Xàbia

Between 30th March and 3rd April, the coastline of Xàbia in the province of Alicante will be the battle ground for an intense nautical competition: the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy, a top-level regatta that pits boat against boat in a Match Race.
The crews competing in the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy are made up of four people, including several skippers, given their current position in the world ranking: Pierre Antoine Morvan (France - ranked 7th), Álvaro Marinho (Portugal - ranked 14th) and Daniel Maestre Azcón (Spain - ranked 207th), among others.
One of the characteristics of this regatta is that it takes place very close to the shore (less than 75 metres). This way, the organisers can clearly and easily identify the boats and their crews from land, where a speaker relays what is happening on the water back to the crowds of spectators.

There will be a preliminary stage involving all the boats racing against each other, and then the best eight will compete in direct clashes to the best of three to decide who goes through to the quarter finals. Only four of them will go through to the semi-finals and then two onto the grand final, which will be taking place on Sunday 3rd April in the morning, starting at 11 a.m.
